1. Battery attachments

The biggest problem with the mobile use of the switch is the battery: with more elaborate titles like Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is finished after about three hours in handheld operation. If you want to continue playing without hanging the switch to the power grid, of course you could load with an ordinary powerbank. But to hang this while playing at the switch is quite annoying.

A more comfortable solution are attachments with built-in battery attached to the back of the switch and barely disturbing there, even if you make the console of course a bit thicker and heavier. Such batteries usually have a capacity between 6500 and 10000 mAh and doubles or triply the maximum playing time. For comparison: The battery capacity of the switch itself is only 4310 mAh.

Attachments with integrated Powerbank such as the Wetoph Nintendo Switch battery also serve as a protective cover and mostly have a stand.

In addition, the essays serve as a protective cover and are in some cases equipped with other extras, for example with a stand, through which the switch can be easily placed on a table, or additional connectors, so that additional devices can be charged at the same time with the switch.

The prices of such batteries vary greatly. One of the most popular models is the S-Charge * with 10000 mAh, which is a bit expensive with a price of about 60 euros. Somewhat cheaper is the Big Blue Nintendo Switch battery, which also offers 10000mAh for just under 40 euros and brings next to a stand even joy-con-handles.

If you want it cheaper, you can also use about 20 euros to grab the Snakebyte Switch Power: pack, which offers a good value for money with 7000 mAh. The holder is not quite as good as many comparable models.

2 . Powerbanks

If you do not want a battery attachment or simply wants an even higher capacity, you can also access a Powerbank. For use at the switch, these should have at least one output power of 2 amps. Thus, the needs of the switch is covered while playing and it will not be discharged as long as it is connected. The edition from 2019 comes with less efficient processor with less, the switch Lite usually ranges to 1 amp.

If you want the switch battery to be recharged somewhat while playing, it may be quiet 3 amps. Also pay attention to that the switch connects the switch to the right port. Powerbanks usually have multiple USB ports, but often only one of the maximum output power brings.

If you choose a Powerbank, we advise you to reach up straight to larger models from 20,000 mAh. There is no too much difference in price: For models with about 25,000 mAh at 2.1 amp outer output you pay between 20 and 30 euros. To do this, bring a tremendous gain of playing time to smaller models with 10,000 mAh, which cost about 10 to 18 euros.

Just because the capacity of Powerbank is five times as big as the switch, but you should not expect that you also deliver the five times. There is always a certain loss, for example by voltage conversion. With a capacity of 25,000 mAh, you should expect more than three times the normal switch runtime. For the switch Lite, whose battery is slightly smaller, almost four times the normal runtime can be achieved.

3 . Joy-Con-battery attachments

Of course, not only the switch itself is sometimes the juice, but also the Joy-Cons. You can easily load them by attaching them to the console. In handheld mode, the problem does not exist. But as long as the Joy-Cons are loading, you can not use them free in table mode.

If you do not feel like it, you can use the battery attachments made by Nintendo yourself. In these two AA batteries are inserted, then the tops are attached to the joy-cons, which are then charged. Whether one is worth the price, everyone has to decide. The battery attachments originally cost approximately 20 euros in a set of 2, right now you get them for about 12 euros.

However, many switch users do not buy the battery attachments as a charger, but therefore, because through them, the Joy-CONS becomes much thicker and thus for big hands are much more pleasant to hold. For players whose hands are cramping for longer sessions, the essays are therefore a good tip. In addition, your surface offers better grip than the Joy-Cons.

4 . Bluetooth adapter

The Nintendo Switch does not have Bluetooth. If you would still like to use your Bluetooth headphones with the switch, you need an adapter that you can connect below on the USB port. The price for such an adapter is usually about 25 to 40 euros. For example, the Lioncast Switch Bluetooth Adapter is recommended. With this, even two Bluetooth headsets can be used simultaneously, which is useful for local multiplayermatches. He is also usable both in the handheld and in TV mode.

A good alternative is the GLIlit Route Air + Bluetooth adapter, which has similar features as the Lioncast model and how this Bluetooth 5.0 and APTX-LL supports, which ensures low latencies. The adapter of GLIlit is currently a bit more expensive than the Lioncast device with around 30 euros. For a few more euros, you can get him in a version with microphone.

5 . Tote bags and cases

Of course, your secure transport is particularly important in the mobile use of the switch. Just plug the switch into any bag, is not a good idea. Although the console is stable enough built so as not to give up the spirit with a small shock. But even seemingly small damage such as a scratch in the display or a broken Joy-Con button can still be expensive.

Therefore, it is recommended to use a special carrying bag that is adapted to the shape of the switch and the Joy-CONS. As a rule, such pockets still have additional compartments in which, for example, games, charging cable or additional Joy Cons are stowed. As for the optics, you can choose between a lot of different designs, some of them with motifs from famous Nintendo titles. Here some examples:

  • Nintendo Switch Tote Bag Pokémon Pikachu (about 15 €)
  • Nintendo Switch Tote Case Animal Crossing Leaf (about 15 €)
  • Hori Nintendo Switch Premium Mario (about 19 €)
  • PDP Nintendo Switch Travel Case Zelda (about 18 €)

Rightly popular are the comparatively high quality bags of Tomtoc. These rich of very compact models, in which only the switch and a few games fit into, to the hard shell suitcase, which also offers space for two controllers and the docking station. Also a special model for the Nintendo Switch Lite is now available. Here is a selection:

  • Tomtoc Nintendo Switch Carrying Bag Slim (Console + 10 Games) for approx. 20 € at Amazon *
  • Tomtoc Nintendo Switch Lite Tote Case (Console + 24 Games + Cable) approx. 17 € at Amazon *
  • Tomtoc Nintendo Switch Tote Bag (Console + 24 Games + Accessories) approx. 25 € at Amazon *
  • Tomtoc Nintendo Switch Case Hard Case (U.A. Console, 32 Games, Dock, Controller) approx. € 45 at Amazon *

Often tote bags are also delivered in the set with further accessories, such as screen protectors, a stand or additional thumb grips. Such articles are usually found in more comprehensive bundles (see below).

  • Heystop 4 in 1 Nintendo Switch accessory set (about 19 €) at Amazon *
  • Keten 13 in 1 Nintendo Switch accessory set (about 20 €) at Amazon *
  • Iamer 11 in 1 Nintendo Switch Accessory Bag (about 13 €) at Amazon *

Incidentally, many of these bags are not optimal for the Nintendo Switch Lite because the handheld console is smaller than the normal switch. So she fits into the pockets, but may not sit firmly and then slips back and forth during transport. For the Switch Lite there are therefore special bags that are adapted to their size. Here some examples:

  • Hianjoo bag (Hardschale9 for Nintendo Switch (about 14 €) *
  • Heystop Bag for Nintendo Switch Lite (about 15 €) *
  • Palpow Nintendo Switch Lite Tote Bag Animal Crossing (about 16 €)

6 . Transport boxes for games

Of course, it is a good idea to protect not only the switch itself, but also the cartridges of the games during transport from damage and pollution. Some switch tote bags have compartments for games, but there are also separate boxes for the cards. Models like the CAMKIX Game Case * or the AmazonBasics Storage Box for Switch Games * are very compact and still offer 24 games. However, some buyers complain that it needs more than gentle violence to get the games into the compartments and out.

Extra Buy a box to protect the cards and then take the risk of damaging you when inserting, of course, makes little sense. We therefore recommend buying a box that may not be so compact in which the games have comfortable space and really well protected. A good example of this is the ARES memory card protective box shown above, which resembles a tiny hard shell case. However, comparable products are also available from other manufacturers.

  • ARES memory card protective box (12 compartments, approx. 10 €) at Amazon *
  • ARES memory card protective box (8 compartments, approx. 9 €) at Amazon *
  • JJC memory cards case (12 compartments, about 10 €) at Amazon *

7 . Micro SD cards

Micro SD memory cards for the Nintendo Switch are a practical thing both in handheld operation and in TV mode. At least if you buy digital games more often, sooner or later, you will sooner or later around the purchase of a microSD, as the internal memory of the switch is used up quickly with its 32GB. When playing on the way, the advantage is that you can easily take dozens of games on a micro SD card instead of making a pile of cartridges.

For use in the switch, you need a microSDXC with a read speed of at least 60 MB / s. The write speed is secondary. So that some games have room, your cards should buy with at least 128 GB. This is often found for less than 20 euros. With larger storage space, of course, the price increases accordingly. What else to pay attention to when buying a memory card, you will learn here:

8th. Thumb Grips

Not every player is happy about shape and feel of Joy-Cons. If you use the switch as a home console, you can change well to a controller (here's our Switch controller purchase advice). But in handheld operation, this is something awkward. Here, it may be more likely to adapt the Joy-CONS a bit to your own needs.

Many like, for example, their convex surface of the Joy-Con-Sticks did not like and prefer a small trough as the Xbox controller, in which they can put in the thumb. Others want their switch simply optically upgrading, such as colorful sticks. There is a large number of so-called Thumb Grips, which allows all this possible.

Thumb Grips are usually available in larger sets with different variants, which usually cost about five to 10 euros. This is especially worth it, if you do not know exactly what you want to have, because so you can test in detail what grip is best suited to your own taste and fingering. Here is a small selection of sets:

  • Amathings Switch Thumb Grips (16 pieces, about 8 €) at Amazon *
  • EXTREME RATE NINTENDO SWITCH THUMB GRIPS (6 pieces, about 8 €) at Amazon *
  • Pandars Thumb Grips (8 pieces, about 9 €) at Amazon *
  • 6Amlifestyle Switch Thumb Grips (8 pieces, about 7 €) at Amazon *

9 . Hand

Are you thinking that the switch is not good in use as a handheld console? No problem, because there are essays with handles, through which you can worries for better feel. The handles have a plastic holder into which the switch simply moves into the infected Joy-cons. Since the normal switch and the Switch Lite are different, of course, you must pay attention to buying a suitable model.

  • Orzly Comfort Grip Case for Nintendo Switch (about 8 €) at Amazon *
  • OIVO Comfort Handle for Nintendo Switch (about 15 €) at Amazon *
  • MOKO handles and protective cover for Nintendo Switch Lite (about 14 €) at Amazon *

For some models, there is also a stand, so that you can also put the switch upright on the table, provided that the handles alone do not hold the switch in an upright position. To play, this is of course only moderately useful, as long as the Joy-CONS is in the holder.

However, with the Heystop handles, the holder can be pushed together so that it only holds the switch without Joy-CONS and still sits firmly. In addition, it is supplied with additional grips for individual Joy-CONS, which improve their feelings, especially for players with big hands. Thus, the switch can be easily used for local multiplayermatches on the go.

Heystop Switch Grips Set (about 16 €) at Amazon *

If you use a Nintendo Switch Lite and want to provide better handwriting, you should buy special handles. Handles for the normal switch usually do not fit due to the size difference. For models for the Switch Lite, it is usually combinations between handles and protective cover, which place over the entire back of the console and possibly parts of the front. Here some examples:

  • Orzly Grip Case for Switch Lite (about 15 €) at Amazon *
  • Moko Case with non-slip handle for Nintendo Switch Lite (about 9 €) at Amazon *
  • Lammcou Handle Holder for Nintendo Switch Lite (about 14 €) at Amazon *

10 . Feet

If you do not need any handles, but you only want to put your switch upright on the table, find high quality stand with adjustable inclination angle such as the hori playstand with three different inclination angles (30, 50 and 60 degrees) for a price of about 10 euros.

Hori Playstand (about 10 €) at Amazon *

If you want it to be very comfortable, you can also get a holder suitable for playing lying. The cheapest possibility are so-called goenning bricks. At these, however, you need a stable board, for example from a bedside table where you can screw the holder. Alternatively, there are also brackets with a frame that can be placed directly on the bed.

From both variants you will find online numerous models. It should be noted that it is tablet holders that are not all suitable for the switch because the console is 14 mm thicker than most tablets and smartphones. So, before buying, pay well on whether the switch fits in at all. Here is an example of a gooseneck holder that is well suited for the switch:

11 . Nintendo Switch Pro Controller

The wireless Nintendo Switch Pro Controller is actually intended for games on the TV. If you place the Nintendo Switch in mobile mode on a stand, but of course he can be very practical here. The Pro Controller is much better in hand than the Joy-Cons and offers precise sticks and buttons as well as the usual switch features such as motion control, HD-Rumble and the NFC contact point for reading the Amiibos. His price is about 50 to 60 euros.

However, you should remember that there is a large selection of partly very favorable wireless controllers for the Nintendo Switch. Especially if you only occasionally play with the controller, the purchase of the relatively expensive originals of Nintendo is not necessarily worthwhile. In our controller purchase advice, we introduce you to a whole range of competent alternatives and explain how you can cut in comparison to the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller:

12 . Compact docking stations

Anyone who takes the switch to a longer journey may not be pleased to pack the quite chunky docking station of Nintendo. Fortunately, there are alternatives that are much more handsome. For example, the GLIKIT SWITCH Dock Set for around 30 euros is very compact.

In contrast to the original docking station, this can also be used in tabletop mode, whereby the station serves as a stand. However, it has a disadvantage: the ventilation does not work optimally despite ventilation slots, with very long gaming sessions, the switch will therefore be quite warm. A full alternative is the station therefore not, but as a second device for on the way it is reasonably good. The same applies to most devices of other manufacturers.

  • Innoaura charging station for Nintendo Switch (about 30 €) at Amazon *
  • Whatsabro Nintendo Switch TV Docking Station (about 27 €) at Amazon *

13 . Joy-con-alternatives

Not only a mere grip attachment, but a real replacement for the Joy-CONS in handheld mode is the Hori Split Pad Pro, which is much more comfortable for players with great hands than the Joy-Cons. It is much wider and the handles with their on the back rough surface ensure better grip. Another plus is the precision. Especially the D-Pad is significantly higher quality than that of the Joy-Cons or the Switch Pro Controller. The drifting problem of Joy-Cons does not exist here as well.

On the other hand, the Split Pad Pro lacks a few features such as motion control. For this it has significantly more buttons than the Joy CONS. In addition to the two shoulder buttons per side, there is a very easily accessible and freely assignable button on the bottom. In addition, each button can be equipped with a turbofunction that simulates repeatedly. You can learn more about the Split Pad Pro in our Switch Controller comparison.

By the way: Anyone who does not interfere with the form of Joy-CONS, but just would like to have a decent control cross, can also replace the left Joy-con by a corresponding model of Hori, which there are already about 20 to 25 euros. However, the disadvantages of the Split Pad Pro apply here: It is only coupled to the console usable and the Rumble feature is missing. But at least the movement control works by the right Joy-con.

In addition to the licensed products from Hori, there are still some Joy-Con-alternatives of less well-known third-party manufacturers, but the quality of which you can not always rely on. In part, these also have handles or a broader form that makes them better suitable for players with great hands. Unlike the Hori Split Pad, most of them are also usable as the true Joy-cons also wirelessly and detached from the console. You occasionally encounter such products if you are looking for Joy-Cons' on Amazon or Ebay. Often the models disappear quite quickly from the platforms.

Joy-Cons at Amazon *

For those who are not satisfied with the Joy-CONS, of course, there is also the possibility to switch to a proper controller. For the switch, there is a wide selection that goes far beyond the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Some of the best alternatives have been collected in our large switch controller comparison.

14 . Touchpens

Not directly a gadget for the switch, but also useful for the tablet, smartphone and everything a touchscreen has: touchpens. Especially for users with larger fingers, it is often difficult on the small screens, that's exactly what you want to meet. In addition, fingers always leave footprints. Both problems are easy to solve with a touchpine.

It should be noted when buying only that the switch has a capacitive touch display. That is, the touch is only registered if it causes a small discharge on the display, and that can not every pin. Since capacitive touchpens, however, also work with all other types of touch displays, they are now rather the rule than the exception and very favorable in the market.

However, prices are quite different depending on the model. Longer, high-quality and also visually slightly more elegant copies cost individually about five euros, with some variants be significantly more expensive. For Sets with several pins, the unit price is often much cheaper.

  • RPLANE screw Disc Stylus with magnetic cap (about 7 €) at Amazon *
  • B & D stylus with 20 spare tips (about 10 €) at Amazon *
  • Metro input pylits 3 pieces with 15 spare tips (about 14 €) at Amazon *

In the meantime, there is also a Touchpen of Nintendo itself. This is common with Dr. Ing. Kawashima's brain jogging appeared, but also appeared alone. However, he is currently only in the Nintendo Eshop and costs 7.99 € plus shipping. He makes more or less the same thing that other capacitive touchpens do, and does not have the large number of spare peaks with which other models are often supplied.

Accessories bundles

For those who want to save some money by not buying every little thing individually, there is a large selection of relatively cheaper accessory packages for the Nintendo Switch. Expanded equipment like the Hori Split Pad Pro can not be found here, even battery attachments and Bluetooth adapters are very rare. There is a lot of smaller gadgets for little money.

Most commonly included are essays for the Joy-CONS, tote bags, various protective covers and films, feet and thumb grips. In the most comprehensive bundles are usually a charging station and one or the other USB cable. Rarer are touchpens and headphones. The prices are between 15 and 60 € depending on the scope.
