Tadej Pogacar has won his second great classic this year. The 23-year-old Slovene won on Saturday at the 115th Lombardy tour and is thus the first cyclist since Bernard Hullet in 1979, which will take success in the Tour de France and the Italian Monument in the same year. After 239 kilometers from Como to Bergamo, Pogacar continued at the race of the falling leaves in the sprint against the Italian Fausto Masnada. In the sprint of the pursuer group, the Briton Adam Yates was third party with 51 seconds.
It s crazy. After such a season to the end to bring such a victory, Pogacar said. I knew that Masnada knows the streets pretty well here and get me. He did not work with me, but fortunately we had enough lead.
Tracker unins - only Masnada closes
After the race offered over 200 kilometers of excitement, Pogacar at Passo di Ganda put a good 35 kilometers of the goal of the decisive attack. Behind the tour winner, a non-aided group of world champion gathered Julian Alaphilippe, Alejandro Valverde, Vuelta winner Primoz Roglic and Yates. Since the top riders were hunting for Pogacar undermined outsider Masnada attacked in the departure and closed to Pogacar. In the sprint, however, the Slovene was unbeatable and won at IL Lombardia at his first participation. Previously, Pogacar had recovered Liège Bastogne Liège this year and thus its first great classic.
German driver without chessman chanceless
German drivers played no role in the Hatz by the north of Italy about seven climbs. Maximilian Schachmann, last year still seventh, was not nominated by his team Bora-Hansgrohe. The German champion still suffers from the consequences of a fall last week at Paris-Roubaix. The Lombardy tour should actually become the highlight of the autumn strain for Schachmann.
