It is really true: from next year Electronic Arts will no longer produce FIFA game. Instead, there is EA Sports FC.
Regardless of whether you liked it or not, the brands FIFA and Electronic Arts have been unmistakably connected for almost 30 years. Since FIFA International Football for the Sega Megadrive from 1993, the logo of the world's largest sports association has been emblazoned at the group's football games. This will end from next year. FIFA 23 will be the last game with the powerful license. But is the license really still a sales argument? Electronic Arts has pushed billions to FIFA over the years in order to be able to publish the official games on various European and World Championships.
The market has also changed significantly compared to previous years. In addition to FIFA, there are numerous other license holders. For example, clubs have started marketing themselves in the recent past. So it also happened that FC Bayern Munich had a cooperation with Konami to appear in Efootball. Borussia Dortmund took the other step, who have been back in EAS FIFA for some time. Previously, the Ruhrpott team was only found in Pro Evolution Soccer with all official licenses.
The separation will probably hardly have a playful influence and the effects on the presentation should also be limited. Electronic Arts works with over 300 license partners to continue to create an authentic atmosphere. Large events such as a World Cup only play a subordinate role.
And what do the players say? A similarly stored message regarding the Bundesliga would probably have triggered a moderate quake. However, if we look at a cross -section of the first opinions on social networks and other channels, the loss of the license does not seem to heat, apart from the usual comments such as "FIFA is shit" and "Every year the same". Instead, the new name of the sports series is more discussed. Among other things, the user Manliestmanamongman notes on Reddit that the name can lead to confusion. Other questions, on the other hand, why EA did not immediately call the game Football Ultimate Team, since in this mode the most money is made anyway.
And what does FIFA say about it? The football association is pleased to be able to offer more diversity in the future and not only want to launch realistic football games together with partners. One of the first products will be a game to match the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Further titles are also planned for the third quarter. Or to say it very clearly and unadorned: Now Infantino and Co can pull the money out of several partners at the same time and no longer just EA.
